One of the greatest pleasures in life is helping to put a smile on someone’s face. I had the privilege of doing just that at the end of summer last year.
My sister had a very long nine months. (No, she was not pregnant.) From the start of her cancer journey to the end took over a year, but nine months of surgeries and treatments can wear on a girl. She had a total of 20 chemotherapy treatments – 4 of Adriamycin and Cytoxan, then 16 of Taxol. Once chemotherapy was completed, she ventured into her radiation treatments – a total of 28 treatments to be exact. As you can see, that was months upon months of treatments alone.
Knowing the long journey my sister had to take, I knew I needed to do something to celebrate the end. After all, I love celebrating the wins. I set out to make this day memorable. Friends and family were recruited secretly to post videos, pictures, and offer congratulatory words for finally finishing her treatments. I, myself, posted the video below. After four attempts, I finally let my heartfelt, raw emotions show through. So what if I was in tears. So what if I continued to sniffle throughout the video. I knew that my sister would appreciate the words I had for her.
I’m sharing my video with you today. It may offer you inspiration to put a smile on someone else’s face. It may offer you hope that there is an end to your journey as well. After making a fool of myself, at the very least it will show you the love I have for my family.
