Australian veterinarian Geoff Wilson just finished sledding across Antarctica to raise money for breast cancer organization the McGarth Foundation. In total, Wilson generated $200,000 for the group while breaking a record. Overall, he was the third person to trek across the icy continent and the first from Australia.
Wilson and his sled were both decked out in pink as he traversed more than 2,000 miles of land in Antarctica, according to the Guardian. This solo expedition spanned 53 days of skiing and sledding to reach from one coast to another. Wilson was inspired by his friend Kate Carlyle, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer twice. He thought of her throughout the journey.
"Katie has had to walk this road, and the road's not over yet," Wilson told the source.
The McGarth Foundation is a well-known charity in Australia. Jane and Glenn McGrath's personal experiences dealing with breast cancer inspired the foundation of the organization. Now the group is helping families and working to promote awareness of the disease. Additionally, the organization has launched a special initiative called the Curve Lurve, which works to educate young women about breast cancer.Whizzco
