April 2005. My father in-law, Larry J. Holt, 47 years young is diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. 6 days later, my mother, Zora R. Boggs is diagnosed with breast cancer.
My wife is an only child and I am the oldest of two boys. We had plenty on our own plate at home but the sudden news stopped us all. We turned to our faith in God, and our faith in our family.
Larry J. Holt passed away from his cancer July 4th, 2005. Zora R. Boggs survived with treatment and breast removal. She is still a survivor in year 7 and cancer free.
I will never forget the moment my mom was told she was free of the cancer. I looked at my wife and cried out, “I’m sorry.” The bitter sweet feeling of keeping my mom but losing a great man in my father in-law. My wife and mom have always been close. This event brought them closer.
This disease is so damaging, not only to the victim, but their family also. It must be stopped. Give if you can, pray for a cure and never quit fighting a good fight. It will effect everyone sometime in their lifetime.
