Breast Cancer Survivors Celebrate With Pink Tea Party

Breast cancer survivors from High Point, N.C., have a reason to celebrate. It's been a year since their diagnosis and they are throwing a party to honor the milestone, according to the High Point Enterprise. The Pink Tea Party was held at the Hayworth Cancer Center in January. It was the first event of its kind hosted at the medical center and Susan Sumpter was one of the survivors in attendance.

"This is special, because we're celebrating one year of survivorship," Sumpter told the source. "It's very special to have made it. I feel like I've become stronger in so many different ways, and the cancer center had a lot to do with that."

The event also featured the first women to complete the cancer center's breast navigation program, which gives patients a primary contact. This person is available to answer questions, helping women through their journey. According to the source, Thomas, a nurse with 23 years of experience, was the liaison who helped these women with their needs. Thomas helped Sumpter learn everything she could about breast cancer, and what she could do to improve her condition and health.
