The town of Whiting, Indiana, goes pink annually during the month of May to raise awareness, support and funding for the breast cancer cause. According to the NWI Times, the 2014 Paint the Town Pink season includes numerous events. For example, some area restaurants will donate 10 percent of their profits on a given day toward fighting breast cancer. The town also hosted the Stomp Out Cancer 5K Run/Walk.

“We are not only excited to continue the tradition of painting Whiting pink to raise awareness and funds to beat breast cancer, but also to add three new events this year to get more people involved in the fun. We hope to beat the $10,000 we raised last year, which we donate locally to Munster’s Cancer Resource Centre,” Kathleen Ulm, one of Whiting’s Paint the Town Pink co-chairs, told the source.

Whiting isn’t the only town to devote its resources to breast cancer awareness for Paint the Town Pink: Another organization by the same name asks towns to promote annual mammograms. This Paint the Town Pink campaign is aimed at women ages 40 and older who live in Monmouth county, New Jersey, and also occurs during May. Participants ask women to pledge to have their mammograms that year.
