Watch This Six Year Old’s Incredible Speech Before Minor League Hockey Game
When it’s game time for any sports team, they’ve got to be pumped up and focused on the goal. One sure way for a coach to get them there is the time-honored tradition of the pre-game speech.
That’s exactly what happened when the Peterborough Petes, a junior ice hockey team in the Ontario Hockey League, got some energetic encouragement from their coach for the day, six-year-old Callan Perks.
The team had asked local kids to submit videos and be part of a “Next Gen” game, where they sign “contracts” and learn what it’s like to be on a hockey team.

Callan’s video was so inspiring that he got to be coach! Coach Cal delivered his speech in the locker room before the Petes game against the Ottowa 67s, opening with the line, “legends are made every day, and you could be one of the greats!”
After he finished his speech, the team erupted into cheers. “I was so happy. It was like, ‘Let’s go boys’ and then they started cheering and it was so awesome,” Cal told the Peterborough Examiner.
That energy carried the team to a 3-2 victory over the 67s, and the team is keeping Coach Cal’s positivity with them off the ice too.
As part of their yearly work that raises donations for cancer research, the team released a limited edition “Coach Cal” t-shirt.
Coach Cal's speech was so powerful we decided to put it into writing! Get your hands on these limited edition t-shirts to help Coach Cal raise proceeds for a cause near and dear to his heart!
