Watch This Hospital Staff Dance The Nae Nae To Send Off 12-Year-Old Cancer Survivor

After living with scoliosis for years, young Sophia Petikas was used to wearing a brace every day. But in 2013, she began experiencing intense pain. She had an MRI, and doctors found a tumor on her spine. She immediately had it removed; however, a year later, tests showed that additional tumors had cropped up on her spine.

This time, her doctors recommended proton therapy. That’s how Sophia became the first pediatric patient at the Proton Therapy Center at the Willis-Knighton Cancer Center in Shreveport. This type of therapy treats patients with ProteusONE, the first compact pencil-beam scanning proton therapy system.

During her treatments, Daniel Speir, one of her nurses, told Sophia that he would learn the dance to one of her favorite songs, and celebrate with her on her last day. He kept his promise!

Daniel, along with the the Proton Radiation team, surprised Sophia with a flash mob to Silento’s “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)”, and presented her with a certificate of completion.
