This Gutsy Survivor is Walking 1,000 Miles Topless to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness
Breast cancer impacts many lives. Paulette Leaphart did not have any medical insurance when she was diagnosed with her breast cancer, and her medical bills total over $200,000. On top of that, health complications kept her from getting reconstructive surgery, leaving her wondering what she would look like when her double mastectomy took away her breasts. But the most important thing to Paulette is still being alive at age 49 and being able to be with her family. Too many people’s lives are taken far earlier.
Now Paulette is raising breast cancer awareness by walking topless to highlight her flat chest and mastectomy scars. Her awareness walk spans 1000 miles from Mississippi to Washington D.C. over three months. Paulette’s goal is to get people to think about the breast cancer battle as a fight against a destructive illness, rather just about nice pink bows.
