Study Finds Working Out In The Evening May Be Better For Your Health

If you do any research online, you’re likely to find some people who tell you that it is important to get up early and get your exercise out of the way.

That may be true, but working out later in the afternoon has been shown to have more benefits.

This study, done by researchers, was published in Nature’s Communications Journal. They found out that those who worked out after 5 PM were less likely to die from heart disease than those who worked out before 11 AM.

The researchers did find out that it was important to exercise later in the day if possible, but they went on to say that it is important to exercise at any time of the day.

Going out for a brisk walk or other exercises can help lower your risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer.

Over 92,000 participants were part of the study. All of them were enrolled in the UK Biobank, which has 500,000 residents from the UK. That organization maintains the health data for those people.

In order to get more information, the scientist put the participants in groups according to exercise frequency and time. Their seven-day activity data was analyzed so that they could track and record activity, along with mortality.

The afternoon seemed to be much better for the elderly. It is also the time when most people are least likely to experience a heart attack.

Dr. Randy Goodroe works as an interventional cardiologist in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Although he was not involved in the study, he did say that heart attacks are more likely to take place in the morning.

According to Grand Strand Health, the doctor said: “Most heart attacks hit during the early morning hours from 4 [to] 10 a.m., when blood platelets are stickier, and there is increased adrenaline released from the adrenal glands that can trigger rupture of plaques in coronary arteries.”

This may be of concern to those who exercise in the morning but they really shouldn’t worry. In doing research on mice, scientists found out that exercising when the sun comes up can burn more body fat and boost your metabolism.
