A Breast Cancer Previvor Decides Not To Get Reconstruction — And Starts An Organization For Like-Minded Women
Sara Bartosiewicz-Hamilton was 29 when she found out she carried the BRCA2 gene mutation — and what she did with that information shocked the people around her. To lower her risk of getting breast cancer and ovarian cancer, she underwent a preventative double mastectomy with reconstruction, as well as a complete hysterectomy/oophorectomy.
Then, years later, she made the decision to remove her implants and embrace her flat chest — and in the process, co-founded the organization Flat & Fabulous.
