Boy Finally Goes Home For The First Time After Spending 1,000 Days In The Hospital

A lot of kids in the United States are born in hospitals. Some might stay for a few days while mom recovers from surgery, while others stay a few weeks in the NICU to overcome health issues.

Francesco Bruno had to stay much longer than most kids, however, but he’s finally going home – after 1,000 days in the hospital!

According to CBS News, Francesco was born with a form of skeletal dysplasia that impacts his ribs. The way his ribs are make it difficult for his lungs to grow properly, meaning that he needs intensive medical care to survive.

For his entire life, Francesco has seen nothing but the inside of a hospital. He requires a ventilator to breathe and tubes to eat. It’s all he’s ever known. But now, after 1,000 days, the now almost 3-year-old Francesco is going home with his family.

According to CBS News, Francesco’s father, Emanuele Bruno, said, “We’re very happy, nervous, tense, scared, overwhelmed, really happy, overjoyed. It’s just a melting pot of emotions.”

His mother, Priscilla Bruno, added, “They told us [when] he was going to be born, he was only going to live for 30 minutes. It’s really a miracle he’s with us today.”
