Friends, Support, & Laughter

The day I was diagnosed, my family and friends were there to support me…instantly! When I told one of my best friends, De, the first thing she said was “I’ll shave my head with you!” And guess what?! She did!

I didn’t think it was going to be a big deal, but the day we shaved our heads is a I’ll never forget. When I used the blow dryer that day, my shirt was covered in hair. I called my hairstylist and De and told her it was the day. Off we went! None of us were prepared for the day…I missed feeling like a girly-girl. But it was the first major milestone in the whole ordeal…we laughed, we cried, laughed, cried, and laughed some more. It was the first step in a very long process, but De’s expression of solidarity meant so much to me that I would absolutely do it for someone else. Big deal…it’s hair…it grows back! That was my thought on that day, April 29th to be exact, and now, more than a year after my last treatment, I still have the amazing support of my friends and the same positive attitude I had on that first tough day.

This picture is part of why we laughed so hard…who doesn’t love a Mohawk! I’m the one on the left.
