We at GreaterGood have always had a soft spot for people and animals in tough situations. Every time there is a natural disaster, no matter where it is in the world or who it affects, we have strived to raise funds and provide help where it’s needed most. We’ve even found a special niche in helping the animals that are often abandoned and forgotten during these difficult times. Over the years, we’ve raised millions of dollars for a wide variety of natural disasters and the humans and animals affected.

Earthquakes are a common natural disaster that prompts GreaterGood and donors like you to spring into action. In 2015 in Haiti, for example, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake left the nation’s capital in ruins. As soon as we requested funds, our donors reached out to help, and we were able to raise more than $285,000 to help support people and animals who had been left with nothing.

Haiti, Nepal, China, Chile, Peru, Pakistan, Italy, Japan, Ecuador. The list goes on. We’ve evacuated animals in need and brought supplies to people who had nothing. And we couldn’t have done it without you. We’ve been there every time, thanks to generous donations from folks like you.

Hurricanes are another type of natural disaster we can always expect to see again, year after year, and we’re always standing by to offer our assistance. In 2018, the long-lived Hurricane Florence devastated the Carolinas with massive flooding and wind damage. We quickly raised over $190,000 to help provide supplies for those left without the basic necessities.

Just a month later, Hurricane Michael swept through Florida, making history as the first category 5 hurricane to make landfall in the contiguous United States since 1992. Again, we were there, tirelessly working to bring more than $115,000 worth of goods and supplies to the people and animals who needed them. We also raised an additional $60,000-plus to help save the bee populations that were actively starving in the area after that storm wiped out their food sources. We fed tens of thousands of bees with sugar syrup and provided bee pollen as well to keep their colonies alive.

The following year, Hurricane Dorian was knocking on our doors. We raised over $160,000 to help people and animals affected by that storm. Through it all, our amazing donors have never tired of giving what they could to help those in need around the world.

GreaterGood has delivered countless numbers of shoes, clothes, sheets, pillows, meals, and other important supplies to people in the wake of hurricanes and other natural disasters. We’ve also evacuated thousands of pets, many of whom were in danger of euthanasia at crowded animal shelters, to safer locations where there were more resources available to care for them. This also frees up space in those vulnerable shelters for the stray and displaced animals that will no doubt be in need of a place to stay after such storms.

We’ve even been on the lookout for ways to help before disasters even occur. We’ve rescued pets and evacuated them to safer locations after hurricanes, but we’ve also rushed to fly pets to safety before the storms even hit in some situations. Hundreds of pets have been flown to shelters that could take them and been given loving forever homes instead of being allowed to stay in the path of storms like Hurricane Laura, Hurricane Ida, and Hurricane Florence, where they would have been in danger of drowning, starving, or being euthanized. On one occasion, we even transported a three-legged mouse to safety!

And, of course, after each natural disaster, we’ve stuck around to help people stay afloat and rebuild their lives. In the wake of Hurricane Ida in 2021, for example, we donated holiday toys to children in Louisiana who were hit hard by the storm and affected by poverty. We’ve provided pet food and helped fund spay and neuter services for new shelter animals. And one of our favorite projects was rebuilding Acadiana Animal Aid, an animal shelter in New Orleans, after it was destroyed by Hurricane Delta in 2020.

We cannot thank you enough for not only giving but giving AGAIN each time we’ve asked. Natural disasters have always happened and will continue to occur, and it takes amazing people like you to ensure that those affected by them are properly sheltered and cared for in the aftermath. The world needs more people who are willing to give whenever and wherever they can to help.

With your support, we’ve been able to donate more than $75 million to charitable causes that help where it’s needed most since 1999! That’s certainly something to celebrate! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
