Hugh Jackman Comes Clean After Cancer Scare

We sometimes get advice from influencers and celebrities. Some of the advice applies to us and some doesn’t.

What Hugh Jackman had to say on social media, however, applies to all of us.

54-year-old Jackman went on Instagram to post a video about some recent work he had done. He wanted to clarify things in advance, “just in case someone sees me on the street or whatever.”

He went on to say that he had two biopsies done. After going to the doctor, she saw the little marks on his nose that may or may not be basal cell. At that point, the doctor didn’t know.

It would be two or three days before he knew the results, and he promised to update his fans. He also told us that basal cell carcinoma is “the least dangerous” type of skin cancer.

The Skin Cancer Foundation reports that basal cell is the most common type of skin cancer. Approximately 3.6 million people are diagnosed annually in the United States with basal cell.

The cancer occurs when our skin is exposed to UV radiation. This could be from the sun or tanning salons. UV radiation makes changes in basal cells, which are responsible for the production of new skin cells.

When basal cell carcinoma is treated early, it has a high rate of success.

Jackman wanted to advise people about wearing sunscreen and caring for their skin. In speaking of being out in the sun without sunscreen, he said: “It is just not worth it. No matter how much you want a tan, trust me, trust me, trust me.”
