An 18-year-old girl battling cancer got a special surprise this spring: she was taken to prom by a football star.
Khameyea Jennings had surgery early last year to remove a tumor. Now the tumor has returned, and it's not getting any smaller. Her school held a special graduation ceremony earlier this year just for her — but the teenager almost didn't attend her prom. Her grandmother was the one who finally convinced her to go, before passing away from cancer herself.
That's when a local Jacksonville non-profit called Dreams Come True stepped in, working with area businesses (including the Jacksonville Jaguars) to pull together a special night for Khameyea.
A few days before prom, Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks surprised Khameyea by asking her to prom (captured in the video above!), after first asking permission from her mom. In addition to her date, Dreams Come True provided Khameyea with everything from her dress to her hair and make-up. The night of prom, Marks picked up Khameyea in his Lamborghini, dressed in white and gold to match her gown.
“We get a lot of bumps and bruises from tackling, but nothing like she's going through,” Marks said. “Tonight I just want make sure she has fun and keeps that smile on her face.”
The couple looked radiant, and it seems like a good night was had by all.
