Woman Claims Breast Implants Caused Health Issues And Weight Gain

25-year-old Kayla Caputo is taking to the Internet to spread the word about breast implants, after having hers removed and allegedly feeling much healthier.

Caputo took to TikTok to talk about her journey with breast implants and raise awareness so other women don’t experience the same thing she went though.

In a TikTok video, Caputo explained that she got breast implants in college after being taunted for being small. She said, “I used to be called ‘Noodle’ or ‘Twiggy.’ I was just very small.”

After she got breast implants, she noticed that they felt really hard – something that’s typical of new implants. However, they were supposed to soften up over a few months and they never did.

In addition to the hardness of her implants, Caputo said on TikTok that she had some weight gain and just didn’t feel quite right.

At first, Caputo had no idea why she was feeling off, but after a few years, she figured out that it might be her breast implants. After all, her symptoms had started after her implants were put in.

To test her theory, Caputo underwent a second surgery to have her implants removed.

The surgeon discovered that she had been suffering from capsular contractor – a semi-common condition that can happen after breast implants. Capsular contracture is characterized by hard breasts, pain, and swelling. It’s something that most surgeons will keep a close eye on so it can be fixed, but Caputo didn’t realize she had it until after her implants were removed (despite having symptoms of it the whole time).

Since having her implants removed, Capto claims her symptoms went away and she feels that it was the implants that caused her issues.

There is some evidence that silicone breast implants may be related to “systemic symptoms such as chronic fatigue, arthralgias, myalgias, pyrexia, sicca, and cognitive dysfunction” in some patients, though the association is weak and cases are rare.

In general, silicone breast implants are considered a safe procedure for most people, even for vulnerable populations such as those who’ve undergone chemotherapy for breast cancer.

Ultimately, the decision to get or remove breast implants should be discussed with a qualified surgeon so the evidence-based benefits and risks can be discussed and weighted.
