Baby Kristian is just over a year old, but he’s already gone through a lifetime’s worth of challenges. Kristian has had to learn to deal with chemo before he’s had the chance to learn to talk.

As anyone can imagine, Kristian’s diagnosis in June of 2018 was devastating for his parents, Kennith and Josilyne. His dad Kennith Thomas posted a picture on Instagram of Kristian sleeping, and he promised to fight alongside Kristian no matter how long it took.

Kristian’s parents were committed to being there for their son and to staying positive for him, for each other, and for their other children.

But when Kennith busted some serious dance moves to entertain Kristian in the hospital, thousands of others got involved in cheering Kristian on. The dance in question was particularly special: it was in celebration of Kristian’s upcoming return home. He hadn’t been home since first being diagnosed.

Kennith entered his epic bedside dance into pop singer Ciara’s “Level Up Challenge.” The challenge was designed to encourage people to see challenges as blessings and never stop working to make their lives better. Thousands submitted videos of themselves dancing to Ciara’s song “Level Up” and committing to three ways they wanted to “level up” in their daily lives.

People took notice of Kennith and Kristian’s video, and the following grew until it caught Ciara’s attention. Ciara is a mother herself, and the video touched her heart. On August 3, she made a surprise visit to The Level dance studio, which is owned by the Thomas family.

Ciara adored baby Kristian, and she and her fans named Kristian and his dad the winners of the “Level Up Challenge.” Congratulations!
