Stranger Went Snorkeling in the Darkness of the Night to Help a Couple Find a Lost Wedding Ring

Vena amoris. Meaning, vein of love.

The history of wedding rings goes back to the time of the ancient Egyptians, who believed in this so-called “vein of love” that connects the heart to the fourth finger of the left hand. The circle signifies everlasting union, while the central opening is like a door to a new life for the married couple.

This tradition was carried on by the ancient Greeks and the Romans, with wedding rings primarily made of bone, ivory, leather, and metal. In 400 AD, wedding rings became personalized and designed with engraved images of the couple.

Then, during the medieval period, the fede or gimmel rings were invented which quickly gained popularity due to their romantic designs.

The old-fashioned gimmel ring was made of two bands that were linked together, which in time became more elaborate. More stylish gimmel rings have a third link with engravings on the loops and a heart. Among the popular quotes that are engraved on gimmel rings are “Love me and leave me not” and “What God has joined, let no man put asunder.”

Today, wedding rings are still important to a couple, although engagement rings have eclipsed them. De Beers’s “A Diamond is Forever” campaign was behind the global fame of engagement rings.

And yet, the true value of a ring, be it a wedding ring or an engagement ring, lies in the depth of love of the person who wears it.

In this Reddit post, you could feel how much love this husband feels for his wife and how the kindness of a stranger helped to strengthen their bond.

What an amazing person to do this for a total stranger!
