Lowe’s Employee Goes Above And Beyond By Building Family Life-Changing Device For Their Son

A family trip to a Lowe’s hardware store turned into a touching and life-changing event for the Getty family in Brookhaven, Pennsylvania.

According to Fox 29, Mark and Jessica Getty went to the Brookhaven Lowe’s to purchase supplies needed to make their wheelchair-bound son, Will, a set of parallel bars to practice standing with.

Will’s parents shared with the outlet that due to his premature birth, Will suffers from quadriplegic spastic cerebral palsy. They were hoping to improve the quality of his life by getting him a set of bars to build leg strength and stability with from the comfort of home.

When they went to the PVC pipe aisle, however, they were greeted by an employee, Dave Urban, who was touched by Will’s condition.

Not only did Urban help the family pick out and cut the pieces of PVC pipe needed for the new device, but he also took the time to help them assemble it!

Urban even waited to see Will try it out to make sure it was just right, really going above and beyond for the family.
According to Fox 29, Urban said, “Then came the test. Will got up, out of his wheelchair and grabbed a hold of those bars. I think you saw that courageous smile of his, sense of pride…it keeps getting me.”

Will can use the parallel bars to practice walking forward, as well as from side to side. He can also grab the bars to pull himself up from his wheelchair and work on strength and coordination.
