Getting a devastating medical diagnosis can be one of the hardest things to experience in life, but for 27-year-old Hunter Knisley, it gave him a reason to host his dream beach wedding with his bride-to-be.
According to PEOPLE, Hunter was diagnosed as a child with Becker Muscular Dystrophy, a condition that generally allows people to live into their 30s or 40s, with many going on to experience full lives.
It seems Hunter’s condition was worse than average because, at just 27-years-old, he was given weeks to live. His doctors suggested he get his affairs in order and asked if he had a dying wish.
His dream in life? To marry his beautiful fiance, Emily Draper Knisley, and take their children to the beach.
Hunter and Emily started dating back in 2019 after reconnecting on Facebook. PEOPLE reports that Hunter was upfront about his condition and the potential of having a shorter life expectancy. However, Emily didn’t mind. In fact, she said, “If I was going to have someone break my heart, I wanted it to be him.”
Hunter and Emily, along with her two children, all moved in together and it wasn’t long before Emily and Hunter welcomed a baby of their own in early 2020, which Emily shared photos of on Facebook:
Hunter ended up proposing to Emily in 2020, but they had to delay their marriage and wedding so Emily could finish getting a divorce from her previous husband. Divorce can take years to settle and Hunter and Emily didn’t realize they’d be so pressed on time to have their happily ever after.
While still waiting on Emily’s divorce to finalize, Hunter got the awful, gut-wrenching prognosis – he was in end-stage heart failure and had just weeks to live.
After hearing the news, friends, families, and even strangers rallied around the couple to make their dream wedding a reality. An attorney helped Emily finalize her divorce in just a matter of days and people from all over donated to their travel expenses so they could take their kids from Ohio on the 10-hour trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the wedding.
😭❤️😭❤️This was the most incredible experience, and we could never express our gratitude! Our minds were eased, our…
On April 21, the couple had their dream wedding with their children on Myrtle Beach.
Hunter wrote of the ceremony on Facebook, saying:
“I never thought any of this would be a possibility for me. I can’t thank everyone enough that made this possible. To my beautiful wife that loves me and helps me through every day that makes my dreams real, and our babies that made me the father I always wanted to be. I love you. Thank you everyone for the support. I’m happier than I ever imagined.”Whizzco
