Create Irresistible Maple Goat Cheese Cinnamon Rolls from Scratch

There’s something incredibly satisfying about creating a sweet treat from scratch, especially when you can incorporate farm-fresh ingredients straight from your own backyard.

For this recipe, we’re taking you on a journey to the farm for Maple Goat Cheese Cinnamon Rolls. These rolls are not only made with love but also with the freshest goat’s milk from one of my family’s Nubian goats, Lilac, homemade maple syrup from our maple trees, and a generous amount of cinnamon.

To top it all off, we’ve whipped up a sweet and creamy icing using maple syrup and goat cheese that’s simply irresistible.

Ingredients:

For the Dough:
  • 1 cup warm goat’s milk (freshly milked, if possible)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Filling:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • Optional: 1 cup nuts, dried fruit or chocolate chips

For the Icing:
  • 1/2 cup goat cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm goat’s milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add the melted butter, remaining sugar, eggs, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.

Step 2: Roll and Fill
  1. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.

  3. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle it generously over the buttered surface.
  4. Drizzle maple syrup over the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  5. Starting from the long side, carefully roll up the dough into a log.
Step 3: Slice and Bake
  1. Cut the dough log into 12 equal slices and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cover the dish with a kitchen towel and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes while preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Bake the cinnamon rolls for 25-30 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
You can use raisins, nuts or chocolate chips to add another dimension to the cinnamon roll filling.

Step 4: Prepare the Icing
  1. While the rolls are baking, make the icing. In a bowl, whisk together softened goat cheese, maple syrup and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
Step 5: Glaze and Enjoy
  1. Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly for about 5 minutes, then generously drizzle the goat cheese maple icing over the top.
