What do beards and breast cancer research have in common? Not much before students at Miami University (MU) in Oxford, Ohio decided to link the two together. According to the Journal-News, two MU sophomores, Alex Belman and Kenny Ness, convinced their male classmates to stop shaving while raising more than $13,500 for breast cancer research.

No Shave November inspired the fundraising initiative that is being called Beards for Boobs. Each year this month is slated to raise awareness for men’s health care issues like prostate cancer. However, Belman and Ness found another cause that needed their support.

“I wanted to do something specifically for breast cancer because my grandma had recently been diagnosed and beaten it,” Belman told the source. “We based it off of No Shave November because we were already going to participate and figured why not do something good with it.”

The duo began their fundraising efforts through word of mouth. However, later they set a goal of $10,000 and asked the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity for help. Beards for Boobs in still in operation, selling shirts with the funds going toward a good cause.
