Bride’s Rudeness Costs Her One of the Best Wedding Gowns

Wedding dresses have an opulent history. And back in ancient times, white was not the color of the day.

Depending on the geographical location, the color of the wedding dress was based on customs and beliefs. Meanwhile, designs and materials were in accordance with the financial standing of the bride. And back then, most brides wore their best Sunday dress on their wedding day and not a newly bought outfit.

What’s more, men and women centuries ago customarily did not marry for love. The purpose of marriage was the union of families, businesses, or countries, such as the royal marriage of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette that led to the historic solidarity between France and Austria.

It’s believed that the concept of wearing a wedding dress originated from a Chinese fable, with a princess donning a phoenix dress and crown on her nuptial day. Red symbolizes happiness, luck, and celebration in Chinese culture, with the tradition of wearing a red wedding dress having its beginning in the Ming Dynasty. Prior to that, black with red trimmings was the bridal custom during the Zhou Dynasty, pure black during the Han era, and green was the most fashionable during the Tang period, when brides could make choices outside the influence of tradition.

Meanwhile, in the West, ancient Athenian brides wore violet and red robes with girdles. Ancient Roman women, on the other hand, had their hair braided and covered with deep yellow veils that symbolized torch and warmth.

Then, in medieval times, wedding gowns made a colorful evolution with brides wearing velvet, silk, and furs of vibrant colors, with blue as the most popular choice, representing purity.

So when did a white wedding dress become famous? There’s a belief that the wearing of white originated in the ancient marriage-market traditions of Babylon and Assyria, when women who would be auctioned for marriage were dressed in white or cream. However, it was Queen Victoria who made the white wedding dress a standard when she wore a white gown at her wedding to Prince Albert in 1840. Back then, white symbolized wealth. But Queen Victoria’s influence reverberated through the ages, with white now being the symbol of purity and innocence.

Of course, nowadays, brides have limitless wedding dress options. Some choose the traditional white gown with a lengthy train and lacy veil, while others may opt for an elaborate designer attire or an informal beach wedding dress.

Surely, it’s a joy for any bride to make her choice of a dress that fits her ideals for her wedding day!

This bridal consultant has just as much joy with her work that gives her the opportunity to help other women in selecting the right dress for the most special occasion in their lives.

With the username u/Nameless-and-quiet, she wrote, “I’m a bridal consultant at a very popular bridal salon in my town. I have many years of experience and love what I do. Most of the bridal gowns in my shop are ‘special order,’ meaning they must be ordered before they are made by the designer, and lead times can be anywhere from 4 weeks to 8.5 months. Not everyone knows this when they come shopping for a gown. That’s the whole point of me being there. I make sure we can get the dress in time, any desired customizations or alterations are possible, and that the price is within the bride’s budget.”

Pretty cool. Anyone would be happy and grateful to have that kind of help, especially as wedding preparations demand so much time from the bride and groom and their families.

However, instead of a cheerful and excited spirit, OP’s next client surprised her. She continued to relate in her post on Reddit’s r/MaliciousCompliance, “Well, when this particular bride and her mother stepped into the store, they went immediately to the racks and started ripping through the neatly hung gowns. I introduced myself, explaining that I would be their consultant for the appointment. This bride had a fairly short engagement (about 4.5 months), and I knew that only some of the gowns would be available in time. As I tried to explain to her and her mother the process, she sharply cut me off and told me to ‘just let us shop and leave us alone.'”

OP was shocked by the client’s rudeness. But she kept quiet and returned to her seat to finish what she was doing. She could observe that both bride and mother had been looking at wedding dresses that were beyond their budget and would require a long time to be created. But since she was told to leave them alone, OP did not make any effort to share this information or take the dresses to the dressing room for the client.

The post continued to say, “Even after they stood by for a while, clearly waiting for me to take her back to the dressing rooms, I just continued on with my other work as if they didn’t exist. Eventually, they realized that I had no intentions of acknowledging or helping them in any way, and they left without getting to try on any gowns.”

Well, after they left, the shop’s owner did ask OP why she did not assist them. She told her the entire story, and the owner laughed and replied, “good for you!”

Shame on the snotty bride who could have had the best assistance and the best dress for her wedding day!
