Four Buddies Hear NYC Street Violinist & Stop Short, Then Launch Jaw-Dropping Impromptu Dance
Sometimes the universe is kind and lets the right people all bump into each other at the right time in just the right place. When that happens, it’s up to those involved to make the most of the moment. This story is about five people who seized the moment and made the most of a late-night serendipity on the streets of Times Square.
Instagrammer extraordinaire Juneelite is a dancer who was visiting New York for the first time with some of his friends and fellow dancers. June shared his experience with his Instagram followers by posting pictures and videos of himself dancing all over the city: in subways, on the streets, all over!
But their most inspiring number was completely unplanned. After filming a couple of exhausting videos, June and his friends went outside for a breather in Times Square, thinking they would film one last video outside.
That’s when they happened upon an especially talented busker (street musician) working to make his living at 1:30 in the morning. June and his friends had stumbled upon 24-year-old Wuilly Arteaga. Wuilly is from Venezuela and taught himself to play to violin by watching YouTube videos. His talent and dedication gained him admission into El Sistema, Venezuela’s premier music school.
But in 2017 Wuilly was put in jail for playing his violin at a political protest in Venezuela. The United States granted Wuilly asylum, and now he busks on the streets of New York to earn his living. His music is rich and captivating, and June noticed his talent as soon as he heard Wuilly. So he asked if he and his friends could dance to the music of Wuilly’s violin.
June tells his Instagram followers that the performance that followed was not at all planned, and he captioned the video: “When New Yorkers hear a violin.”
Each of the dancers shows off his signature style, but they can all move like nobody’s business. Their happiness is infectious, and their joy of movement combined with Wuilly’s amazing street violin makes for a completely unique experience—in New York or anywhere else!
Thanks to the men who made this video. It’s an excellent example of talent recognizing talent and combining to make something wonderful—even if it wasn’t planned!
