TikTok Users Are Showing Off “Miracle” Results After Trying New Alopecia Drug

Alopecia has been in the spotlight recently, and it seems there may be a miracle cure of sorts.

The condition, which causes hair loss, was brought to people’s attention during the 2022 Oscars when Chris Rock made a distasteful joke about Jada Smith’s bald head. Smith has been dealing with Alopecia since 2018, and the joke really drew attention to it.

While some treatments for alopecia have been available for quite some time, a new drug is on the market and it seems to be working miracles for some people.

The drug, Baricitinib, was approved to treat alopecia over the summer, under the brand name Olumiant. Since then, patients have been using it and sharing their results on TikTok.

One person who had great results from the drug is Celine Keely, and she shared a video of those results for the world to see.

Keely shared the now-viral video along with the caption: “I am so nervous to post about anything alopecia related, but this is the content I was desperately searching for when I started Olumiant. I’d like to give that to somebody.”

Keely wasn’t alone in having success with the drug. TikTok user Xavier Piña also shared a video of their results with Olumiant, claiming it’s the only thing that’s worked for their alopecia.

According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, alopecia is a disease that happens when the immune system attacks hair follicles. The attack results in hair loss, both full or partial depending on the person.

Hair may grow back over time, but it may not. Thankfully, the disease doesn’t seem to affect other bodily functions and is largely a cosmetic issue. There’s no known cure for the disease, but some treatments are available that can encourage hair growth, like Olumiant.

According to the company’s website, Olumiant is the first “FDA-approved once-daily pill for adults with severe alopecia areata.”

Taking it can offer great results for those with alopecia, but it’s important to note that it can cause life-threatening conditions like infections and blood clots, as well as unpleasant side effects, like acne, tiredness, nausea, weight gain, anemia, headaches, and more.
