Police Officer Comforts Young Girl After Car Accident

When you think of a police officer, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? We know that they are out there to “protect and serve” but their responsibilities run much deeper.

That became evident on May 17 when a woman had a seizure while driving a vehicle. Unfortunately, the seizure caused her to run off the road and she crashed her vehicle into a tree.

The good news is that the woman was treated on the scene by first responders who arrived quickly. They also soon discovered that there was a young girl in the car with her mother, and she was understandably frightened.

The first responders were busy working on the woman who had the seizure but officer Jordan Marksbury was off to the side taking care of other things. You see, the little girl was frightened because there were no other family members there, so the police officer gave her comfort during that time.

Now, Officer Marksbury is being honored by the Norfolk Police Department. She is being recognized for providing something that is above and beyond the call of duty.

The Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), which is a division of the Department of Justice, runs a photo contest on a monthly basis. It is known as “Community Policing in Action.”

I couldn’t think of another picture that truly captures this side of police duty. Apparently, those who take care of the photo contest would agree, because Officer Marksbury was the winner in May 2022.

The Norfolk Police Department had the following to say on the photo and the award. They said:

“The scene in the winning photo is nothing out of the ordinary for the NPD, which focuses on supporting its community members in as many ways as it can.

The kindness and compassion of Officer Marksbury will be a moment this young girl will never forget.”
