I am forty-three, and the mother of three wonderful kids. I found a lump in my left breast, and had a biopsy performed. On January 18, 2012, at 6:31pm, I got the call from the doctor confirming that I did have breast cancer. Once diagnosed, it was a whirlwind of doctor appointments and tests. I was fortunate to have the BRCA test performed; it came back positive. Now I have to undergo a double mastectomy and a hysterectomy, but it helps; my children can get tested so that they know whether they carry the gene.
Please, ladies, do monthly exams. If you even think you feel something, go get it checked! Chemotherapy will run your body down, but it has already shrunk my tumor, and I have high hopes of overcoming this battle. I thank all of my family and friends for their help and comfort in my time of need.
