Cooking Accidents That Became Culinary Show-Stoppers
Sometimes, getting creative in the kitchen involves a lot more than just trying out a new recipe or adding new spice to a favorite. Sometimes, things can go so wrong that they actually turn out just right.
Here’s seven of our favorite cooking accidents that became culinary showstoppers.
1. Chocolate Chip Cookies
Legend has it that this favorite dessert was created by Ruth Graves Wakefield, the owner of the Toll House Inn, in Whitman, Massachusetts. There’s variations on how the cookie came about. Ms. Wakefield says once that she deliberately make the cookie. Other accounts state that she had been trying to make chocolate cookies and when she ran out of baker’s chocolate, substituted broken pieces of semi-sweet chocolate into the batter, expecting the chocolate to melt and blend with the cookie upon baking. The chocolate didn’t blend, and the chocolate chip cookie was created!
