Shannen Doherty Continues To Empower And Educate People Amid Her Battle With Breast Cancer

Shannon Doherty is a recognized actor and producer, and she was first diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2015.

After various treatments, including hormone therapy, chemo, a mastectomy, and radiation, her cancer went into remission in 2017.

“As every single one of my fellow cancer family knows the next five years is crucial. Reoccurrences happen all the time. Many of you have shared that very story with me. So with a heart that is certainly lighter, I wait. In the meantime, decisions. Reconstruction, which is several surgeries. Decision on taking a pill for the next five years that comes with its own set of problems and side effects. I am blessed, I know that. But for now…remission. I’m going to just breathe,” she said in an Instagram post.

Sadly, Doherty revealed that her cancer returned in 2020, but she continues to keep a positive attitude.

“I cheered myself up by putting on funny pajamas that my friend Kristy gave me. Did they actually cheer me up? Yes!! Lol. I looked ridiculous, and in that ridiculousness, I was able to laugh at myself. Finding humor helped get me thru what seemed impossible. I hope we all find humor in the impossible,” she said in an Instagram post.

Doherty has always been open about her battle with cancer. She shares her journey on social media and also spreads awareness about cancer. Through sharing her own experiences, she said that she hopes that it will encourage people to get mammograms and to always get regular checkups.

Always prioritize your health. It’s always been said that you know your own body the best, but even if you feel fine, it’s always important to get checkups.

Doherty has become an inspiration to other people. Even though she’s still fighting, she doesn’t fail to enjoy life. Cancer slayer, she hashtagged one of her posts. But she doesn’t just slay cancer, she also slays life.

This wonderful person not only continues to fight her own battles, but she’s also using her platform to spread awareness about cancer, human rights, pet adoption, animal rights, and rescues.

The actress recently called out SAG-AFTRA, a labor union, in an Instagram post, claiming that her health insurance was canceled due to her income level in the midst of her battle against cancer.

“When we aren’t able to work for health reasons, why, our union abandons us…Health insurance shouldn’t be based on annual income. It’s a lifetime contribution. And for me and many others, we have paid a lifetime of dues only to be canceled because we don’t meet your current criteria. Not ok,” she said.
