Tattoo Artist Offers Breast Cancer Survivors Confidence
A new trend is rising amongst the ranks of breast cancer survivors. Many women who have had large breast tumors or tumors near the areola will lose their nipple, leaving them with an understandably lowered self-confidence. Recently, however, more women have been turning to tattoo artists to procure 3D renderings of nipples drawn over their breast cancer scars. The process occurs following surgery and allows women to have some degree of reclamation over their bodies.
Vinnie Myers, a tattoo artist from Maryland who works both on the east coast and in New Orleans has emerged as an expert in the field of nipple tattooing. Most of his work centers on providing images of nipples that offer a 3D appearance, though he caters to the desires of the woman on a case-by-case basis. Some women have asked him to tattoo stars, shamrocks and the like over their surgical scars. Vinnie seems happy simply to be a part of their healing process, a sentiment he indicated to NBC New Orleans affiliate WDSU.
“When they get to me they know they’re finishing everything up with the last step,” Myers told the source. “It’s a great position for me to be in, and to hear their stories and be able to close this chapter in their lives. It’s just a wonderful place to be.”
