Pink Ribbon Tea Event Raises Money for Breast Cancer Support

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon Tea is an annual event designed to help raise money for the American Cancer Society. The third annual tea took place April 27 in Richmond, Virginia, and organizers hoped to bring in $30,000 for the cause. Those who attended sipped tea with friends, participated in a silent charity auction and wore pink hats at the Westin Hotel on West Broad Street.

The attendees could also participate in a hat fashion show. Most who did donned a pink cap in honor of cancer patients. Furthermore, the tea featured speakers who shared their stories about battling and surviving breast cancer. Organizers recognized locals who showed exceptional support for the cause.

"We are the only organization that provides direct patient services," Corliss Hamilton of the American Cancer Society told Richmond CBS affiliate WTVR. "A survivor can call our office and speak to a cancer specialist who will give them information … They can come into our office and get wigs. We make sure that we're actually serving the survivors."

The American Cancer Society is a nationwide health organization that has regional offices. It aims to raise awareness, fund research and help patients and families as they battle the disease.
