I would like to thank all of my supporters, and my sweetie who took great care of me during all of this.
In March of 2012, I had a mammogram. It showed something. I went for a digital mammogram a week later, after which they finally sent me to a breast cancer surgeon, who did a biopsy in May. The biopsy came back negative, but my doctor didn’t like that answer, so he did a stereotactic biopsy. That came back as cancer in the left breast. I will never forget May 25, 2012—the day he called to tell me the news.
For some reason, it wasn’t easy telling my boyfriend or my kids, but I did. After talking to my boyfriend and doctor, I decided on a double mastectomy; no ifs, ands, or buts!
On August 10, with my boyfriend and my kids by my side, the ugly cancer was taken out of my body. I’m now doing reconstruction.
A big thank you to my doctor who did that second biopsy and found it.
I still think about what would have happened if he had just left the first one and said, “You’re fine, it’s negative.” Big hug and kiss to my boyfriend and kids. I’m now a survivor! Yeah!
