Illness and chronic conditions impact almost all of us in some way. Either we’re fighting ourselves, or we know someone whose life was forever changed by disease.
Fighting cancer can feel like a tough, solitary endeavor, but friends and family are key elements of support. Their encouragement makes a real, genuine difference during the fight.
Here’s five ways that friends, families, and total strangers came out to support people who were fighting for their lives. We’re inspired and amazed by the kindness and support of these incredibly creative and compassionate people.
When Sarah Dalzell was diagnosed with a hereditary form of stomach cancer, her friends got together to show their support for her fight by sporting her favorite shoe: Converse Chuck Taylors. They took pictures of their kicks and posted them to Facebook with the hashtags #SneakersForSarah and #ChuckCancer. Sarah got an outpouring of kind messages from people supporting her fight.

According to PR newsletter, when Converse heard about the #SneakersForSarah campaign, they decided to do something special for Sarah. They created two pairs of custom sneakers for Sarah and delivered them to her at the hospital where she was receiving care. Converse also posted this message of support on their company page.
When Sarah realized all that Converse had done to show their support for her fight, Sarah replied via Facebook, “Thank you for doing this for me! It means so much!”
