A missing woman was found alive in a submerged jeep in Lake o’ the Pines in southwest Marion County, Texas.

In a Facebook post, the Marion County Sheriff Office explained that a fisherman on the lake called in after “observing a black jeep submerged about forty feet from the Woody’s Camp boat ramp.”

Authorities arrived at the scene, along with a tow truck to help haul the vehicle from the water. However, as the fisherman and the authorities approached the vehicle, they made a shocking discovery: There was a woman still inside!

The Facebook post explained, “As the jeep was being prepared for removal from the water, it was discovered a person was still in the vehicle and moving.”

“With the assistance of the wrecker service, fisherman, and Marion County deputies, a female was safely rescued from the submerged jeep. EMS responded to the location and transported the female to a local hospital,” the post explained.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office also noted, “During the incident, it was determined the woman was listed as a missing person from the Longview Texas Police Department.”

According to Inside Edition, the woman had been reported missing two days earlier. They’re unsure how many hours she’d been submerged in the lake but she was conscious when they pulled her from the Jeep. The Jeep’s windows were down but an airpocket kept the woman from drowning.

It’s unclear why she chose to remain in the vehicle with the windows down rather than exiting or how the vehicle became submerged in the lake, but an investigation is ongoing.
