Woman Opened a 10-Year-Old Message in a Bottle and Found Its Sender

The Little Mermaid collected a lot of lost items during her trips around the ocean. All of it has fascinating stories about how those things ended up in the deep waters. Sometimes humans discover objects like Ariel, but you’ll rarely find one as interesting as those in her collection. Among the items found in the sea, a message in a bottle is the most magical. The concept of sending a message via the ocean is interesting and exciting. It’s interesting because the letter might be from decades ago, and it’s exciting since you’ll never know who might find it.

A message in a bottle can be likened to a time capsule. Furthermore, it’s enchanting to be connected to a person that lived on a different timeline. Receiving the message in a bottle is also finding a piece of the sender’s younger self. Another example of sudden discoveries is when you engage in an ocean clean-up. Organizations routinely do a clean-up to lessen the pollutants in bodies of water, primarily plastic bottles. Sometimes the water bottle comes with a surprise — a letter from ten years ago. Rosalind Evans found the washed-up bottle during a coastal clean up on Victoria’s southwest coast.

Rosalind is a member of Local Beach Patrol 3280, which is affiliated with Good Will Nurdle Hunting. Since it was a fascinating treasure, the organization posted the story on its Facebook page. They opened the bottle and read the letter. Apparently, it was written by an 8-year-old girl named Ines Zepcan. She sent the letter to the ocean 10 years ago, intending to bring good tidings to whoever found it. There was no particular recipient mentioned ,and Ines just really wanted to make someone smile. She wrote, “Whoever finds the bottle will have good luck for life.”

Through the power of social media, Rosalind easily reached out to Ines through a private message. The 18-year-old responded with a lovely reply: “Hello! Yes I have! I just saw the video on your page and that is my mum’s email address haha. My siblings and I sent that bottle off a pier in Portland Victoria exactly 10 years ago! I’m sorry we couldn’t send a million pounds along with the message, but I’m so glad you guys reached out, has really brought back a lot of memories for me and my family. Probably not the most environmentally friendly choice made by my eight year old self, so I think I might have some cleaning up to do.”

It’s amazing how one coincidence can connect different people. Perhaps Rosalind was meant to get ahold of that bottle because she cared enough to update Ines about the letter from a decade ago. The letter floated to the right person and somehow came back to the original sender. Ines might not have received the bottle, but there’s nostalgia from seeing the letter, even in a video. Moreover, she might volunteer for coastal clean-up someday and finally meet the receiver of the luck she sent out to the ocean as a little girl.
